A new three-level residence set into a steep hillside lot in the Westlake hills of Austin, where the architecture called for expansive, floor-to-ceiling glazing that would dissolve the boundary between the interior and the landscape — without sacrificing the slim, minimal sightlines the design demanded. The program was substantial: 44 separate window and door units totaling more than 2,200 square feet of glass, the great majority standing ten to twelve feet tall. Several openings were exceptional in scale — a twenty-foot-wide sliding wall opening the great room to the view, and a two-storey, twenty-two-foot-tall window rising the full height of the central stair — and a number of units sat at exposed corner conditions subject to high wind pressure. No single window system could satisfy every one of these conditions while holding the same refined, narrow profile throughout. Beyond the engineering, the design had to resolve real-world site constraints: aligning glass divisions across adjacent windows and sliding doors for a continuous visual rhythm, raising one elevation to screen an exposed tree root ball from view, introducing privacy where rooms and the entry opened onto one another, and holding to a single, cohesive material language — inside and out.
Rather than force one system to do everything, WINDO engineered the package across four complementary aluminium systems, matched to the demand of each opening while keeping a unified appearance. Reynaers SlimLine 38 carries the slim fixed and tilt-and-turn windows throughout the home, setting the narrow-sightline language. Reynaers MasterLine 8 handles the structural openings — the entry wall, the custom inside-opening pivot entry door, and the tall corner bedroom assemblies — where strength and weather performance matter most. Alumil Supreme S650 powers the large sliding-glass walls, including the twenty-foot great-room slider that is the centerpiece of the main living space. And for the full-height stair opening, a Reynaers ConceptWall 50/60 curtain wall rises two storeys to meet the high static and wind-load requirements while preserving a minimal visible profile.

Working closely with the builder and architect across multiple revisions, WINDO modeled each opening to keep the floor-to-ceiling intent intact, aligning panel divisions so transoms and mullions read continuously across neighboring windows and sliding doors. One elevation was carefully re-proportioned to lift the sightline above grade and screen the landscape below. Switchable privacy glass and obscured glazing were specified where rooms and the entry needed seclusion, including the garage and entry openings. Every unit was finished in a consistent bronze-black brushed anodized finish — durable and refined, carried across all four systems so the home reads as one continuous material from inside and out — and produced on a controlled schedule that accounted for the additional anodizing lead time, sequenced through procurement, fabrication, quality control, and delivery to meet the construction timeline.
